hii everyone ..
This blog will help you to understand about peer mentoring concept and process that will take place in your peer mentoring sessions, as i am writing it for the sake of freshers.
what is peer mentoring?
First let us know what is meant by peer mentoring:
PEER : look with concentration at someone or someting.
MENTOR : advise or train
so peer mentoring is all about taking care and advising you in things which you feel difficult and you find yourself a bit slow than your friends. This will definitely help you in building your skills.
what to do in sessions?
Usually you will have the session after your lab. In this session there are two roles, mentor and mentee. Mentor will train their mentees, generally a mentor will have 2 or 3 mentees based on your class strength. Initially all the mentors will be given with a topic for that session to discuss, and after the discussion you need write your reflections in the diaries given to you. Later your reflections will be checked by your mentoring coordinator and he will sign on it.
who will mentor?
Do you know something! the whole beauty of this program lies in here. Mentors are none other than your friends. Initially you have to write an exam to decide whether your role is going to be as a mentor or as a mentee . results of your exam are confidential . number of mentors will be based on your class strength. A mentee can choose his mentor, regardless of gender.
The idea of students mentoring their classmates is so great such that it is more efficient than faculty-students interaction, just like an indian finding another indian in foreign with ease. this will help you to clarify your doubts without any fear. In the overall session teachers will have no role to play, only you the people have to complete the session in our own students world successfully.
